Installing Symphony Math on a School Network File Server
Description Symphony Math can be installed as a standalone program (on each student workstation) OR as a shared application on a network file server. The instructions in this document detail network installation.
Windows
  1. Download and install the Symphony Math program from the Downloads page of the symphonylearning.com web site.
  2. After installation, run the Symphony Math program one time, and enter the school account #, username and password information.
  3. Copy the 'C:\Program Files\Symphony Learning\' directory to the file server.
  4. Set the permissions correctly so that network users can access the program at the same time:
    • Right-click the 'Symphony Learning folder and select 'Properties'.
    • From the Properties dialog box, make sure the 'Read-only' checkbox is checked, and press the OK button. This box must be CHECKED, NOT filled.
    • If prompted, choose to make the changes for all subfolders and files.
  5. Create shortcuts to each student workstation that will point to the Symphony Math application on the server.
    • Right-click on the 'SymphonyMathematics.exe' file, in the Symphony Learning folder.
      windows create shortcut
    • Select 'Create Shortcut'. A file will be added to the Symphony Learning folder named 'Shortcut to Symphony Mathematics'. A shortcut is an icon that points to a program or data file. Shortcuts can be placed on the desktop or stored in other folders, and double clicking a shortcut is the same as double clicking the original file.
    • Drag the shortcut that you just created to Student workstations - most likely to their desktop.
